History

Springfield Manufacturing started as the process development shop for the Huffman Corporation in the late 1980s developing the waterjet machining processes for the customers purchasing Huffman's waterjet machines.

In the early 1990s one of Huffman's largest customers came to us and said, "We want to use your machines and processes to manufacture components for our turbines, but we don't want to bring this work in-house. Can we use your machines just to manufacture parts for us?"

This contract manufacturing business became so successful that it was spun off into a separate business in 1996 called Springfield Manufacturing, LLC.

In 2005 Springfield Manufacturing took over the sales and marketing of waterjet machines from Huffman. This move provides additional value to our machine customers by providing direct access to Springfield Manufacturing's waterjet experts while still supplying the same robust machines built by Huffman.

Over the last decade Springfield Manufacturing has grown to a 24-hour production shop whose customers read like a who's who of the aero and land based turbine and aerospace industries. The chances are excellent that you've flown on a plane with components we've manufactured or had your electricity produced by turbines we've helped build.

Facilities

Springfield has six 5 and 6 axis abrasive waterjet systems with work zones up to 8' x 6' x 3' (note that parts exceeding these dimensions can be accommodated in our large gantry systems by the use of special fixturing).

Our CAD/CAM capability is state-of-the-art. We can use CAD models generated by any CAD software such as ProE, Unigraphics, CATIA, AutoCAD or Solidworks to generate the CNC programs for waterjet cutting, drilling, milling or coating stripping. We even have virtual machining software that we use for fixture design and process development.

We have two CMMs including a Zeiss with Calypso software which enables us to inspect hardware and compare it directly with the CAD model. We also have a small metallurgical lab including a microscope and digital imaging system.

Since Springfield Manufacturing is a sister company to Huffman Corporation and Huffman Technologies we have access to their resources as well. These include 5-axis superabrasive grinders and 5-axis laser cladding and welding systems. Through our association with Huffman, Huffman Technologies and our local suppliers we can also offer grinding, machining, EDM, heat treating and the full range of inspection services to meet your single source production requirements.
